Toms River Closes Homeless Camps-Secure Out-Of-Town Housing

Toms River is closing its homeless camps, using $250,000 in federal American Rescue Plan funds to temporarily house residents in motels as winter approaches. Mayor Daniel Rodrick, with council approval, aims to transition camp residents out of unsafe wooded areas, working closely with the State Department of Community Affairs on longer-term housing solutions. The initiative addresses safety concerns, provides support for mental health and substance abuse, and includes accommodations for pets, ensuring a more stable transition for the homeless community.
