New Jersey’s homeless population reached a decade high in 2024, increasing by 23.5% from 2023 and nearly 57% from 2021, with 12,680 individuals experiencing homelessness according to Monarch Housing Associates’ "NJ Counts" report. The surge has prompted initiatives like Camden County’s $6 million multi-agency center and Burlington County’s $18.3 million emergency shelter, aimed at providing support and resources. Homelessness disproportionately affects Black, non-Hispanic residents and is primarily driven by eviction, job loss, and mental health challenges.
