Jersey City Council Approves Measure To Give Residents Affordable Housing Preference

Jersey City Council has unanimously approved a new ordinance granting local residents' preference for city-funded affordable housing units. Sponsored by Councilmen James Solomon and Frank Gilmore, the ordinance allows existing residents to have priority in lotteries for new affordable units, provided these units aren’t federally or state funded. This measure aims to support residents amid rapid development, ensuring they benefit directly from the city’s affordable housing initiatives
