California Governor Gavin Newsom has warned counties that if they don't show significant progress in clearing homeless encampments, he will redirect state funding intended for homelessness. Following the Supreme Court's ruling allowing more aggressive sweeps, Newsom's executive order and increased pressure have led to more frequent and forceful clearances of encampments across the state. However, critics argue that these actions are not accompanied by a corresponding increase in shelter beds or affordable housing, leaving many unhoused individuals with few alternatives.
