California Launches New Program To Improve Public Safety By Reducing Homelessness And Recidivism

Gov. Gavin Newson

California has introduced a groundbreaking $16 million program to support individuals reentering society after incarceration. Through a partnership between the state’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) and Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) departments, the Reentry Housing Pilot Project (RHPP) will fund long-term supportive housing and services, aiming to reduce homelessness and recidivism for those transitioning from the justice system. Eligible organizations can apply now, with funds anticipated to be awarded by summer 2025.
