I am a relative neophyte when it comes to Social Services as the leader of Cumberland Family Shelter. However, I am not sure if everyone is aware there were changes (at least in Cumberland County) regarding the process of housing the homeless. Allegedly, an individual receiving SSI or SSDI are not eligible to come to the shelter until they go to the Division of Social Services to see if they are eligible for GA or EA funding. Once seen at DSS, they can stay at the shelter under the SSH funding guidelines until their application is reviewed. If they are ineligible to receive EA or GA support, then they are to be discharged under those guidelines. I am at a loss. Are we now selectively choosing whom we serve? Can someone please give me a call to help me understand? 856-327-3143. Thank you!! Al Fisher
